NEW FOR 2025
Delightful Eygalières has been a big hit with Simpson Travellers in recent years, and guests tell us they love its vibrant village centre and relative absence of day-trip traffic. All your basic food shopping needs are covered here, supplemented by a thriving Friday market for fresh local produce. There are enough restaurants to allow you to choose a different venue every day for a week, including one with a Michelin star for a special treat. Book yourselves in at Villa du Bagna and you’ll find all of this lovely village life just an eight-minute walk away.
The house is located in a quiet residential area about 700m from the village centre, set on a spacious plot and surrounded by hedges for privacy. The outdoor space is pure Provence, with tiled terraces around a ten-metre pool, a lush lawn and olive, almond and pine trees dotted around for shade. If you need more shade you can retreat to the pool house, which is equally appealing as evening falls and you can stream your favourite summer playlist through the Sonos system while the stars begin to twinkle above. There’s a summer kitchen here too, fully equipped with oven, hob, dishwasher, freezer and fridge, plus cutlery and crockery for 12.
Once inside, the look is more Scandinavia than South of France: minimalist yet comfortable, with top quality designer furnishings, hotel-standard beds and original artworks from the owners’ native Norway. It’s very much a house to be lived in, with a host of practical extras including a laundry room and small office with high speed internet for those who might need to open the laptop from time to time. With two additional guest annexes to supplement the bedrooms in the main house, this is an ideal base for two families or a multi-generation party looking for the seclusion of a villa in a convenient, edge-of-village location.
Local Area
Eygalières is a superb spot, built, like so many in this area, on a limestone outcrop that affords sweeping views over the surrounding fields and vineyards to the Alpilles mountain range. Just a five-minute drive away is delightful Saint-Rémy de Provence, full of cafes, restaurants and speciality shops. It was near here that Van Gogh spent his final days and painted some of his most famous works including Starry Night and Irises. There’s a small Van Gogh exhibition at Saint Paul de Mausole monastery. If paintings don’t appeal, then you can head for the hills and gently rolling landscapes of the Parc Naturel Régional des Alpilles. This scenic area offers marked walking trails through vineyards and olive groves, a wonderful way to spend the day in the cooler months. Avignon deserves a full day out, with a fantastic food market and the UNESCO-classified Petit Palais museum as well as its celebrated pont.

Our choice of France properties is diverse, ranging from simple charm to genuine luxury and style. Much of our portfolio is privately owned, and price alone is therefore not a universal guide. We contract all our accommodation in person, and each property has its individual appeal.
To help you make the right choice based on your own priorities, we have devised a simple grading guide to be considered in conjunction with each individual property description, awarding up to a maximum of five stars for the below categories.

There's no better way to while away leisurely holiday hours than by visiting the many Provençal villages with their cobbled streets and cafes. Hilltop towns glow in pale golden stone, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and fields of fragrant purple lavender. From celebrated Gordes to charming Eygalières, each town has a market to help you discover local produce, or treat yourself to a long lazy lunch; from pavement cafes to Michelin stars, the midday meal in France is nothing short of an art form.
The cities of Avignon, Orange, Nîmes and Arles offer an architecturally rich and cultural day out but try to make time for lesser-known gems like Vaison la Romaine, Uzès and Ile sur la Sorgue for a less crowded but equally impressive picture of the history of the region.
A day at the beach is always an option but you can find other open water options closer to home, from child-friendly paddling in the River Gardon below le Pont du Gard, to kayaking down La Sorgue as it winds its way through the Luberon. Close to Avignon, Lac de Monteux has a lifeguarded beach and various water activities for all ages.
This is a destination to rival any other. Complemented by our selection of handpicked villas we can help you make the most of your luxury holiday in Provence.
