Villa A Murta is one of five charming villas on the hillside adjacent to the ancient village of Olmeto: tranquil and picturesque with its terracotta rooftops, slopes cascading down to the unspoilt beaches of the Valinco Gulf – the area is a walker's paradise.

Each property benefits from its own private swimming pool cleverly designed to provide privacy and the most spectacular of views, whether barbecuing al fresco or enjoying the peacefulness of the terraces. The open-plan layout and bright décor combine to create a light and airy feel, while the furnishings are a stylish but unfussy blend of contemporary and traditional – from rattan and wicker to the chunky wood dining table. Whether in the kitchen or the sitting room, Villa A Murta, Villa Doniche, Villa Vigna Maggiore, Villa Vista and Villa l'Alta all come fully equipped and the local beaches, shops and restaurants are just a short drive away.

Good to know…There is a new modern kitchen and the villa has been clad in stone. The outside pergola has also been updated.

Mr Jonathan Petitpierre, June 2024

This is the 6th year we've used Simpson/stayed at A Murta. Both are fantastic.

Jonathan Petitpierre, July 2023

All aspects from original booking to departure and arrival all went like clockwork.

Stuart, September 2019

Really enjoyed our time at La Murta. The view over the bay is spectacular and we loved watching the ferry, the yachts and the sea planes. Enjoyed exploring the many beautiful bays, with gorgeous walks along golden beaches. Struggled to the top of the tower at Campomoro. So much history revealed to us both there and at Filitosa. Pleased to visit Napoleon’s home and the lovely art gallery in Ajaccio, when we eventually found a parking space! Will definitely recommend Corsica to all our friends. We have never been disappointed in Simpson villas. This is our fourth, if not fifth!

Val & John, September 2019

We have loved our first visit as a family to Corsica. We would recommend a visit to the mountains – we took a guide (Antoine) to do a 4-hour sunset hike around the Plateau of Coscione. Included was a nice swim and gourmet picnic. Not another person was seen but many, many pigs, cows and birds. Also fascinating and very shaded is Cucuruzzu – a prehistoric site with breathtaking views of the Bavella massif. Sartène in the evening was a beautiful spot for a stroll and a drink, with amazing sunset views. So many things we didn’t do – we will certainly return.

Graham, Emma, Holly & Amy, August 2019

The best way to get to know the Golfe might be an early 2-hour boat trip to help to get your bearings. We went on a RIB which did a great tour of both sides of the bay. Campomoro beach is lovely, limited parking so get there early as it’s worth it. Enjoyed the view – always something happening.

G & T, August 2019

Had a wonderful stay at A Murta – views from the terrace are incredible! It was our first time to the island and we will be coming back. During our stay we travelled to Propriano and had excellent meals at Terra Cotta. We also travelled to Bonifacio (get there early!) which was beautiful, before heading to Palombaggia and having a delicious lunch on the beach at Playa Baggia. We drove back via Zonza as per Robin’s recommendation and it was certainly worthwhile – stunning scenery. Santa Giulia was also an incredibly beautiful beach and one we would have returned to if we had had more time. Close to home we ate at Chez Antoine (Olmeto) and would recommend. All in all a great holiday.

Kerri & Jack, July 2019

Had an excellent week and found the villa very comfortable and Zena and Sylvain very friendly and helpful, with some useful suggestions of places to visit. Thanks to Simpson Travel – warm welcome at airport and a visit on Day 1 to advise and a good welcome pack too. All fine and really comfortable, thank you.

Rachel & Hugh, May 2019

A lovely break in a beautiful setting. An outstanding day in Bonifacio – went early and found plenty of parking and took the little train up to the town (at €5 each return – good value). Also enjoyed Filitosa and then a day driving in the mountains.

Steven, Linda & Jeremy, May 2019

A very relaxing and happy stay at A Murta. The villa is perfect for our needs! The pool is exhilarating! Visited Cupabia, Porto Pollo, Campo Moro, Abbatella and Scodi – nice beaches, but hard to beat the terrace here! We had good meals in La Cirque, Chez Antoine (Olmeto) and La Monette (Campo Moro), but again – hard to beat the meals on the terrace with a view. Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and Mars visible most nights – look out for them!

Mr & Mrs J, September 2018

First visit to Corsica. What an amazing island! Our favourite beach was Campomoro and favourite restaurant – Le Cirque. The drive down towards Ajaccio and then back down the white twisty roads is amazing. We had a boat trip to Bonifacio, did the boat trip and train up to the town. We drove to Porto Vecchio and then turned into the mountains towards Zonza. Amazing and stunning scenery, pine forests, lake, beautiful villages. (A must do drive!) The villa was perfect for our needs, James was always available.

Mr B, August 2018

Great couple of weeks spent in Villa A Murta. Our sixth trip to the island but our first on this coast. Much preferred to the busier East Coast. Will never get tired of the fabulous views here! Will be back to discover more of the Valinco.

Mr L, August 2018

We had a very lazy week at A Murta with the weather being hot. We enjoyed finding places a little off the beaten track – we had two attempts at visiting Sartène and gave up as the parking was a nightmare. We did visit Propriano once – very busy although we did like the look of Terracotta restaurant and were meant to return but sadly had no time. We found a lovely beach – Plage de Cupabia – past Serra de Feno, with a great restaurant right on the beach. We ate in La Source in Olmeto – nice terrace with views and good local food. We had a memorable meal at A Pignata in Porto Pollo right on the water’s edge – expensive but delicious. Another good restaurant on the water’s edge was the one attached to Hotel Abbartello (Don’t be put off by the Flintstone architecture and orange paintwork of the hotel – the restaurant is open air to the side. We had a delicious lunch of very fresh fish and moules. We spent another day visiting the ancient Filitosa – fascinating well worth a visit and the drive to get there – the area was very picturesque. Enjoy!

Mrs & Mrs M, June 2018

Another fabulous stay in this hidden paradise. Four weeks this time! What’s so special is that the view is to die for but the comfort, practicality and layout of the villa itself. So easy to get anywhere! So easy to stay put! This year we hired a boat, gone racing at Visco /Zonza (not to be missed!). The Simpson Travel people – Zena and James – have been wonderful. We’ve already booked for next year!

Jon & Marion, June 2018

Our first taste of Corsica and we love it. Enjoyable, well-thought out accommodation with spectacular views which changes over the day with the comings and goings in the port. We will be back.

Bryan & Celia, October 2017

Fantastic week here – loved the villa and the views. Spent the time snorkelling or jumping waves and relaxing on the deck. Our favourite beach was Cupabia, but also liked Cala d’Orzo, Portigliolo and Campomoro. Ate out in Propriano, Olmeto, Abartello, Cala d’Orzo but enjoyed our lunch at ‘U San Petru’ in Serra di Ferro the most – very friendly. Thanks to Zena for tracking down my Kindle after I left it on the plane! Can’t wait to visit Corsica again.

Sarah, Simon, Thomas & Holly, September 2017

We have had a fabulous time at Villa A Murta with many a day spent enjoying the dreamy view! Lots of visits to the local beaches which are all lovely. Our favourite is Campomoro. Agree with previous comment in the villa's guest book that you need to go early to get a parking spot! Big thanks to Zena for her assistance settling in and excellent local knowledge and recommendations. We were very impressed when she popped back to her car with some door hooks so we had somewhere to hang our towels – excellent service! We will be back!

The Roddick Family, August 2017

We enjoyed a fantastic week here at Villa A Murta, the villa was great and the views amazing. Visited Porto Pollo, Laurosu, Portgiliolo and Campomoro beaches. Campomoro was our favourite although there is little parking so need to go early. Also enjoyed a lovely lunch at a restaurant there. Can also recommend ‘Chez Angel' and 'Riva Bella' to eat. Thanks to Zena and Simpson Travel.

The Curtis Family, August 2017

Villa A Murta is everything we wanted/expected. We are veterans of villa holidays – this one was outstanding from every angle. Thank you Simpson Travel and a very big thank you to our representative!

Mr Petitpierre, July 2017

Exellent holiday experience as we have come to expect from Simpson Travel.

Mr Connah, June 2017

A charming villa with endless views.  In the two weeks we’ve been here we’ve visited most of the area which is very beautiful. Campomoro and Porto-Pollo were favourites for our daughter as they were both very sheltered and shallow. We hired a powerboat from ‘Locanautic’ in Propriano for the day and have to recommend navigating to some of the inaccessible coves on the very south-west of Corsica between Campomoro and Tizzano.

Ben, Sarah & Emily, May 2017

First week to Corsica! Lovely week, relaxing by the pool with stunning views.

Jenny & Simone, July 2016

A great company with excellent service!

Mrs Glen, September 2015

Our local representative, Diane, was excellent. Very knowledgeable without being assertive and had a lovely manner.

Mrs Collier, May 2014

Another glorious two weeks in Corsica organised by Simpson Travel. They take the stress out of the coming and going and the quality of the accommodation is always reliable. The reps are on hand to sort out any problems but are equally unobtrusive if you don't need them. We are already planning our next trip.

Mrs Raikes, September 2012

Villa with a great view – it is fun to watch the boats coming and going! Relaxing week and easy to do very little!

Mr & Mrs Stokes, September 2012

Views fantastic, lots of lazing on the decking and use of barbecue, had great weather – mid-20s up to 31 degrees on our last day! Campomoro very worth a day or two. Porto Pollo like Campomoro is close enough to drive to – 35 minutes – lovely bay and restaurants. Bonifacio a bit further afield – 1 hour 20 minutes – but magnificent walled town. Always nice to return to the villa. All in all a great holiday. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did. P.S. Propriano is also very nice.

Mr & Mrs McSharry, May 2012

Our choice of Corsican properties is as diverse as the island itself, ranging from simple seaside charm to genuine luxury and style. Much of our portfolio is privately owned, and price alone is therefore not a universal guide. We contract all our accommodation in person, and each property has its individual appeal. To help you make the right choice based on your own priorities, we have devised a simple grading guide to be considered in conjunction with each individual property description, awarding up to a maximum of five stars for the below categories.

The Gulf of Valinco makes for an inspiring holiday destination – and not just for the wonderful beaches. Propriano is one of the oldest island resorts, its marina lined with cafés and restaurants. South lies Campomoro and, to the north, in the folds of the Taravo Valley, stand the menhirs of Filitosa. Inland, you’ll find the mountain villages of the Alta Rocca, below the Bavella Peaks. And don’t miss the ancient capital of the south, Sartène, a favourite with wine buffs.
