We have spent a delightful two weeks at Villa Fornello, exploring this lovely corner of the island on our first trip to Corsica. We enjoyed the local beaches and cliff top walks. We loved the rock pools in the Fango valley and would love to return to do more walking in the Bonifato forest which is incredibly scenic. The view from the balcony is terrific and we loved watching the sea in all its various moods. Thanks for a lovely holiday.
Thank you for a wonderful week in Corsica! Villa Fornello has been perfect, we have loved being tucked away and with that view, just amazing. Jacques the owner is delightful and Debbie gave us lots of great suggestions. Calvi on the train was superb!
Once again, another fabulous two weeks with Simpson on a twin-centre holiday in Corsica. Two completely villas, both charming in their own ways. We don't think we can travel with anyone else – always a brilliant service and fabulous villa locations.
A truly wonderful stay. Exceeded all our expectations. Weather, scenery, locals, beaches – everything was perfect. Will definitely come again.
We’ve had a lovely time at Fornello. It’s been amazing in Davia. We enjoyed getting the train to Ile Rousse and Calvi. We recommend La Vieillegare for pizza. The beaches are stunning. We had a lot of fun on the pedalos and sofas at Calvi beach. We really loved the villa and the pool. A visit to Pigna and Sant Antonin is highly recommended too.
We have had a wonderful week and loved the sea views. The villa was very comfortable. Many thanks to Jenny who was the best rep ever and who made lots of good suggestions and was very helpful.
Simpson is continually and reassuringly excellent. Villa was exactly as described. Service from our villa rep was superb.
Beautiful Corsica – fourth visit. Love this area and once again Simpson standards do not disappoint. Jenny is a terrific company representative and could not have done more. Lovely villa. Stunning views. A wonderful way to spend two relaxing weeks and the villa was everything you could need.
Lovely villa and you never get bored with the sunsets. Beaches galore to choose from; both the local ones are lovely and Arinella and Bodri but if you are feeling active then walk to Occi – worth it and the walk (well hike – wear proper shoes!) from Bonifatu to the Refuge de Carozza.
The villa – absolutely superb – loads to do in the area, the sunsets were the best, nothing like it. We used the pool daily. We enjoyed the food everywhere and we found our way up into the mountains to watch red kites and eagles. Truly amazing – the same day we saw a dolphin swimming by, we found the wildlife exceptional. Thank you, Jenny, for your care and attention – we’ll be back!
On arrival, we flicked through the guest book and read “magnifique, superb, wonderful, beautiful, amazing” – it’s all true! We had a fabulous week – first time in Corsica and first time travelling with Simpson Travel…both will be repeated! The great thing is that there is no one highlight, it’s all been fantastic, but worth noting was a walk up to the lighthouse in Ile Rousse followed by lunch at U Spuntinu, the rickety train to Calvi and walk around the citadel, the Balagne villages (lunch at I Scalini perched on top of the restaurant was a unique experience – San Antonino), circuit from Lumio on the old path to Lavatoggio and back via the ruined village of Occi was hard going at times but totally worth it, brochettes at Le Beau Rivage, Algajola after our Occi walk. Thanks to Jenny for all the useful info and the book of walks.
Maison Fornello is a simple but quite delightful villa. The sunsets viewed from the terrace are a joy. Corsica is an interesting island and offers plenty for all ages and abilities.
Thank you for a wonderful villa. We loved the amazing views out to sea and the sunsets. Snorkelling every evening was a highlight. Swimming at Fango Valley and in the mountains was great fun and very beautiful. L’Ile Rousse and Algajola are lovely towns to visit for restaurants, particularly L’Escale in L’Ile Rousse. Also, really enjoyed the train ride to Calvi. We spent lots of time just relaxing here at the villa – reading and swimming in the pool.
We enjoyed our stay at Maison Fornello for the first week of our honeymoon! It’s a lovely villa in a great location. We visited Calvi, Île Rousse, Algajola, Corbara, St Florent, Nonza, Pigna, St Antonio and Corbara. We enjoyed a day on the little beach you can see from the balcony, including snorkelling! Jenny, the Simpson Travel representative, was a great help with suggesting places.
A very nice Villa – all you need and spectacular views across the bay. Breakfast from the terrace sets you up for the day. There are some really good circular walks locally and we hope the next guests enjoy this part of the island as much as we have.
We have enjoyed a relaxing week here at Maison Fornello. This is our first visit to Corsica and it has been great exploring the area too. Swimming and snorkelling in the nearby coves and beaches is great fun. The clear, turquoise water is so amazing. We are very sad to be leaving!
What a lovely house! We enjoyed the beautiful, breathtaking views of the sea and the quick access to the beach. We received a lot of helpful tips from Jenny – we most enjoyed the canoeing with the turtles and swimming in the rock pools. Thank you for a beautiful holiday!
Maison Fornello est magnifique! What a beautiful home from home from which to explore this graceful and beautiful isle. And certainly it won't be our last visit. Sunrises and sunsets to die for and a smile and sliced melon at every turn...pure heaven. Eat, drink and be merry among this merry population and rock pool jump and snorkel to your heart's content. Have a wonderful life-changing stay like we did with the angels, Debbie and Jenny, to assist.
We have thoroughly enjoyed our two weeks in this lovely villa – our thanks to Simpson Travel and in particular Jenny, who gave us lots of suggestions of places to visit. Highlights included swimming in the rock pools and canoeing in the delta to see the turtles, snorkelling off our little beach and the local wildlife – mamma Cat and her three gorgeous kittens! Have a great holiday!
A fantastic week in Corsica, sitting on a private terrace overlooking the sea watching the sun set with a glass of wine. Doesn't get much better than that.
Wow, we loved it here, the views, villa, train. We have had a really fantastic holiday. Loads of sun and relaxation – what more could you ask for?
We really enjoyed our stay here at Maison Fornello! We loved having the pool to cool down in, and being so close to the beach. Watching the sunset is always amazing, always so quiet and secluded.
We have had a great time here in the Balagne.
Thoroughly enjoyed Masion Fornello and Corsica generally. View and sunsets were fantastic – we spent most of our time in the evenings on the terrace. Thanks to all the Simpson Travel team for a great holiday.
We have had a wonderful honeymoon at Maison Fornello. The views from the terrace are absolutely beautiful, particularly the sunsets which we raced back every evening to see.
A haven – no need to go anywhere else – beautiful! Hard to leave… Champagne on the beach at dusk is a must! The little beach at the bottom is lovely – lovely sea – clear, clean, and full of local charm.
An excellent fortnight in Villa Fornello and what a fabulous position. Ile Rousse seemed so busy (the traffic!) so this time we did almost everything in Algajola. Finally the snorkelling! The best in the Med? Certainly the best for years – especially if you stick to the right-hand side and round the rocky headland. Enjoy your stay.
We have had a great week – although the house is quite simple, it has pretty much everything you need. The view from the terrace is fabulous! Hope you have a lovely holiday too.
We liked: snorkelling on our beach, snorkelling on Matahari beach, the train to Calvi. We liked the views from our balcony, the waves at Bodri, St Antonio village at the top of the hill. Two of us went to a Corsican polyphonic singing concert at a local church – would definitely recommend this.
We have had a fantastic week here in Corsica, and some of our favorite places were the rock pools in the Fango Valley, Calvi, Saint Florent and Punta di Spanu. The Fango Valley was an hour and a quarter drive and we parked just below Manso where there is a door in the hill on the right. Teenage children will love jumping off the rocks! We had lovely drinks on the seafront in Calvi and the restaurants behind were great. There was a beautiful drive to Saint Florent through the mountains and it was the prettiest place we visited. Yet beware, the cathedral closes at 6:30pm, we missed it! Lastly Punta di Spanu was an amazing landscape and nice swimming.
Boulangerie very good in Algajola. Boys (aged 9 and 5) enjoyed Parcour L’Aventure at Calvi Beach (turn right just after Casino supermarket). Bodri beach nice and sandy, turn left at signpost for Le Sinbad snack bar off main road, not Bodri camping. Parc de Saleccia gardens also good. Went to the rock pools on the way to Nonza and had a great time, some deep pools you can jump into off the rocks.
Spent the most idyllic week in Corsica, the villa is superb, has everything you need, very impressed with Simpson Travel. The views from the terrace are amazing. Opening the shutters in the morning to look out over the cove is breathtaking. The most relaxing holiday ever! Taken the train into Calvi and looked around the shops, explored the Citadel and had a cocktail on the harbour. ile Rousse was a sweet town, Algajola has some nice restaurants too. Our stay here was amazing. We will be back next year, same time, same villa. Corsica is a lovely island. Very clean and very well looked after, and the Corsican people are very friendly.
Fantastic weather all week – been to Calvi (Citadel) and the beach at Pain du Sucre, which was lovely. Also went to the rock pools at Manso and the Artisan trail to San Antonio. Highly recommend them all as well as snorkelling on the beach here! Have had a fantastic holiday on a fantastic island.
Your customer service is exceptional. You allowed us to change our deposit when flights didn't suit, and in effect upgraded us. This was impressive enough, but the level of knowledge within your team is beyond anything I've encountered before. Debbie your local rep 'went the extra mile' to fulfil our request for two doubles, and all in all it was a fantastic holiday. I can't tell you how impressed I am with Simpson Travel, and would travel with them again, and recommend them most highly to anyone. Mr Simpson should be extremely proud of his team!
A wonderful week in a beautiful villa. Fantastic views of the sea. We loved Corsica. Thank you Simpson Travel.
Our choice of Corsican properties is as diverse as the island itself, ranging from simple seaside charm to genuine luxury and style. Much of our portfolio is privately owned, and price alone is therefore not a universal guide. We contract all our accommodation in person, and each property has its individual appeal. To help you make the right choice based on your own priorities, we have devised a simple grading guide to be considered in conjunction with each individual property description, awarding up to a maximum of five stars for the below categories.
* For further clarification on Facilities and Amenities, please view the 'Details' tab for each property or speak to one of our experienced sales consultants.
With fishermen mending their nets by the harbour, Calvi’s maritime heritage remains intact. However, the town has gained a new lease of life in the cafés and bars along Quai Landry, linking the marina and the port, with stretches of beach beyond.
Inland, the unspoilt beauty of The Balagne tells a different story of mountain wildernesses and the island's unspoilt and uniquely fragrant maquis. Follow the Route des Artisans through terracotta-tiled hilltop villages, overlooking a landscape of forests and mountains, and you’ll also find that an excellent glass of local wine is never far away.
Choose a holiday in Calvi & The Balagne and one of our handpicked luxury villas will put you in the heart of this diverse and beautiful destination.
